SUCTION FILTER ELEMENTS: THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE FOR YOUR HYDRAULIC PUMP
Stop Cavitation Before It Starts. Protect Your Most Expensive Component.

Image Caption: High-flow stainless steel suction filter element designed for pump protection.
The Suction Filter Element is installed directly at the inlet of the lubrication pump (either submerged in the tank or on the suction line). Its sole mission is to perform a final safety check before oil enters the pump.
Return Filters: Clean the oil "on its way home."
Suction Filters: Ensure the oil is safe "before it leaves."
Think of it as a Security Checkpoint at the departure gate. Its primary task is to stop large particles from entering the pump. Hydraulic pumps (especially gear and vane pumps) have extremely tight internal clearances. Even small debris can cause:
Catastrophic Failure: Jamming or seizing of precision components.
Accelerated Wear: Rapid degradation of gears and vanes.
Cavitation: Blockages causing the pump to "starve," leading to air bubbles collapsing and destroying metal surfaces.
By catching these contaminants early, the suction filter also reduces the burden on downstream filters, extending the life of the entire filtration chain.
It is crucial to understand that Suction Filters are NOT the same as Return Filters. They operate under completely different physical conditions.
| FEATURE | SUCTION FILTER (OUR FOCUS) | RETURN FILTER |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Pump Inlet (Inside/Outside Tank) | Return Line (Before Tank) |
| Filtration Precision | Coarse (80μm - 180μm) | Fine (1μm - 30μm) |
| Pressure Rating | Low (Vacuum/Negative Pressure) | High (Positive Pressure) |
| Bypass Valve | NONE (Critical Design) | Mandatory (Required) |
| Risk of Clogging | Pump Cavitation & Starvation | High Backpressure & Collapse |
| Maintenance Signal | System Noise & Pressure Drop | Visual/Electrical Alarm |
Our suction filters are engineered with simplicity and reliability in mind.
Design: Most commonly designed as Wire Mesh Elements.
Material: Multi-layer stainless steel wire mesh.
Benefit: Extremely low pressure drop, high flow capacity, and excellent structural strength.
Reusability: Unlike paper elements, our metal mesh filters can be cleaned and reused, significantly reducing long-term operating costs.
Precision: Available in standard coarse ratings (80μm, 100μm, 180μm) optimized to catch damaging debris without restricting flow.
[This is the most important distinction of our suction filters.]
The Logic: Suction filters operate in a negative pressure (vacuum) zone.
The Risk: If a bypass valve were installed, a clogged filter would cause the valve to open due to the vacuum. This would allow unfiltered, dirty oil to bypass the screen and go straight into the pump, causing immediate damage.
Our Solution: We deliberately design these elements WITHOUT a bypass valve.
If the filter clogs, the pump will immediately show signs of starvation (noise, pressure drop, cavitation).
This acts as a forced alarm, compelling the operator to clean or replace the element before damage occurs.
It ensures that 100% of the oil entering the pump is always filtered.
Function: For elements installed inside the oil tank, equipped with an automatic check valve (self-sealing valve).
Benefit: When the element is removed for cleaning, the valve instantly closes the suction port. This prevents oil from draining out of the tank, allowing for clean, spill-free maintenance without needing to empty the reservoir.
Function: For external suction filters, our design supports the integration of a vacuum gauge.
Benefit: Allows operators to visually monitor the suction condition. Rising vacuum readings indicate clogging, enabling scheduled maintenance before cavitation occurs.
Since there is no bypass valve, proactive maintenance is key to system health.
Listen to Your Pump: Unusual noises like "hissing," "grinding," or "cracking" (cavitation noise) combined with unstable pressure are the first signs of a clogged suction filter. Check it immediately.
Initial Startup: Always inspect the suction filter after new installation or oil changes. New tanks may contain welding slag or debris that can quickly block the mesh.
Clean vs. Replace:
Metal Mesh Types: Can be removed, cleaned with diesel/kerosene, inspected for tears, and reinstalled.
Disposable Types: Replace according to your maintenance schedule.
Check Seals: Ensure all O-rings and connections are tight. Air leaks on the suction side can introduce bubbles into the system, causing spongy operation and pump damage.
Pump-First Philosophy: Designed specifically to prevent cavitation and protect your most expensive component—the pump.
Durable Materials: High-grade stainless steel mesh resists corrosion and withstands repeated cleaning cycles.
Global Compatibility: Dimensions and thread types match major international standards (Pall, Hydac, Parker, etc.).
Cost-Effective: Reusable mesh options significantly lower your total cost of ownership.
